In an Australian first, the ACT government has voted for a ban on fossil fuel sponsorships in the Territory’s schools.
After the Greens introduced a motion, the Legislative Assembly voted in favour of a ban on fossil fuel and gambling companies from sponsoring school programs from next year.
There’s more than 60 fossil fuel-sponsored school programs across the country – which are used to improve the image of the industry and give often one-sided information about energy and climate change.
The ACT has set the standard for keeping fossil fuels out of our kids’ education. Now, it’s time for the rest of the country to follow suit.
