The first Fossil Ad Ban has been implemented in Western Australia, following a vote by Fremantle Council.
The council approved a new Advertising and Sponsorships Policy following a rigorous process and community consultation.
The new policy, supported by 52% of the public, bans all fossil fuel sponsorships by Council and most fossil fuel advertising on council land.
Existing sponsorship or advertising contracts by coal, oil or gas companies are excluded, as are temporary signs that are put up around events.
Councillor Adin Lang told the meting, “This is a really good step in the right direction and it sends a really strong message.”
