There’s good news and not so good news in the Sydney suburb of Ryde.

We’re thrilled that the council voted unanimously against fossil fuel advertising in November 2022.

The motion said;

“Council has adopted that we are facing a climate emergency and we are aiming to reach net zero. Advertising of companies involved with fossil fuel production or supply or products such as gas, oil and coal on Council property or facilities is inconsistent with this adopted Council position.”

Unfortunately, some Fossil Ad Ban fans spotted a giant billboard for the world’s biggest coal exporter in Ryde in January 2025.

While we love that local councils are taking the lead against fossil fuel advertising, this example show that federal government action is needed.

Tell the federal government to ban fossil fuel ads.
